Hello!

 

We are super excited to welcome you to the 2022 Counselor in Training Overnight Program at Camp Puh'tok!

 

Your Program Director will be Charlotte Fulwiler.

 

Please find important information below:

 

Arrival

Please plan to arrive at Camp Puh’tok on the Sunday of your session(s) at 4:30 for registration and check-in. You will be directed to your check-in location and cabin at that time.

 

Departure 

Overnight CITs will be picked up at 5:30 PM on Friday

 

Camp Puh'tok

Your summer CIT program will be taking place in the woods at Camp Puh'tok in Monkton, Maryland. Puh'tok is located about 30 minutes North of Baltimore City. You will be spending most of your days outdoors in all types of weather from hot and humid to cool and rainy.

 

What to Bring

Please come prepared to camp with enough clothes for the week, bedding, a backpack, water bottle, rain poncho, umbrella, a bathing suit, towel, and sunscreen, as well as anything else that would make your stay more comfortable. Phones are not permitted. We recommend bringing a wristwatch to help you keep track of time and on-schedule. Please be aware that appropriate clothing should be worn at all times, whether for the weather conditions or otherwise.

  

Daily Schedule

CITs will participate in a variety of camp program activities as well as daily leadership and workforce development workshops and activities. CITs will participate in camp programs including Archery, Arts and Crafts, Canoeing, Tubing, Nature, Field Games, BB’s, Native American Crafts, Rock Climbing, Zip Line, Low Ropes Course, Horsemanship, Team-Building, Hiking etc. Although these activities may be new to you, there will be a trained instructor who will lead you through each activity, so coming with a willingness to try new things and a sense of adventure will be important. 

 

Training Topics

Time management, communication, conflict resolution, child development, emergency procedures, financial literacy, team-building, program development, group management, positive youth development, and restorative practices.

 

Expectations

  • Your priority will be ensuring the safety of the campers, staff members, and yourself

  • You will be on time for your CIT programs

  • You will be present throughout the time you've committed to CIT 

  • Your phone and headphones will be out of sight and will not be used except for scheduled breaks and emergencies

  • You will be an engaged leader and learner in ALL program areas and when working with campers

  • You will participate in programming outside regardless of weather conditions

  • You will request time off using the procedure outlined for you by the CIT Director

  • You will accept feedback from the CIT Director and other staff members and use it to reflect on and improve your performance if necessary

  • You will work collaboratively every day in a team environment with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives

  • You will resolve conflicts in a productive way, seeking help when necessary

  • You will seek opportunities to be helpful to those around you

  • You will respect Y of Central Maryland and Camp Puh'tok traditions, culture, and values, even if they are different than your own

  • You will be a positive role model

  • You will keep information you learn about campers confidential

COVID TESTING

Please note that ALL overnight CITs, including fully vaccinated CITs, must provide proof of a Negative COVID PCR test at drop-off.  PCR tests must be completed within 72 hours of arrival at Camp Puh'tok.  Please plan accordingly.

We will be providing COVID testing on Thursday morning for any campers that will be returning the following week.

If your child has tested Positive for Covid within the last 90 days prior to coming to camp, they do not need to get a PCR done BUT the Camper needs to test Negative with a Rapid Home Covid test done on Sunday morning before arriving at Camp.

MEDICATIONS

If your child takes a prescribed medicine please have your doctor complete and sign the medication form found at the following link.   https://ymaryland.org/programs/generalinfoforms

 

All medications must be submitted to the nurse upon arrival and must be in their original bottles and clearly labeled, including over-the-counter medication or self-administered medications.

 

ONLINE HEALTH FORMS AND WAIVERS

All registered campers should have received an email requesting that you complete your online health forms and waivers.

 

The email will have been sent from: Y Camp at Puhtok in the Pines: Overnight via ePACT Network with the subject of Subject: Emergency information request for your camper's name.

 

*If you have not completed your online health forms and waivers, please do so as soon as possible.  

 

Please note that a doctor's signature will only be required if your child is taking a prescribed medicine.

 

BUNK REQUESTS 

All bunk requests should be submitted through the ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS section of your camper's online forms.

MISSING EMAIL

*If you believe that you have not received the email, or cannot locate the email, please contact customerservice@ymaryland.org to ask them to resend.  

 

Please note that the health form and waiver email request above will have been sent to the email used to register your campers for summer camp.  This email account will serve as your primary point of contact for this summer, so please check that email account regularly.

 

PAYMENTS DUE

The remaining balances will be auto-drafted from the credit card you used to register your child 4 weeks prior to the start of their session.

TRADING POST PROCEDURES

You can set up your child(ren) with a snack shack account which the campers will visit daily. Please bring $10-15 dollars cash or check (made payable to Camp Puh'tok) in an envelope with your child's name on it with you during drop off and your Village Director will collect it

MAIL CALL

You are welcome to drop off mail labeled with your child's name and the day you would like then to receive the letter/care package. You can also send mail through snail mail with your child's name to

But with the mail service, we recommend dropping off letters/packages on the day of. You will be directed where to drop it off. Due to the spacing of the office, we have limited room for all of the care packages/letters. Please be mindful of that and keep packages to the size of a shoe box.
